JOB SUMMARY:The PCA has successfully completed the basic nurse aide course in a state-approved nurse aide training program or an equivalent course or has successfully completed coursework that qualifies a person as a certified or licensed health care professional. The PCA provides personal care services such as personal hygiene and grooming, bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, hair care, dressing, assistance in toileting, assistance with ambulation, mobility, transfers, positioning, and assistance with exercise and range of motion.
I. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports directly to the Administrator
II. QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience/training as a homemaker
- Understanding and compassion for the care needs of the frail elderly and aging population.
- If driving a vehicle during work hours, PCA must have a clean DMV record, automobile insurance, and state of Hawaii driver's license.
III. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to show up to shifts on time and work hours of shifts as scheduled.
- Ability to travel to/from and work in the Lifespan Hawaii’s client’s home.
- Ability to get along with coworkers and deal effectively and professionally under pressure.
- Ability to communicate effectively in conversation and by telephone.
- Ability to chart written communication accurately and legibly.
- Ability to perform housekeeping duties.
- Ability to assist clients to ambulate safely.
- Walking, reaching, and/or bending.
- Lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.
IV. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participates in Lifespan training.
- Personal care for services
- Personal hygiene and grooming
- Bathing
- Skincare
- Oral hygiene
- Dressing
- Assistance in toileting
- Assistance with ambulation, mobility, transfers, and positioning
- Assistance with exercise and range of motion
- Homemaker services
- Routine housecleaning such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, making beds, washing dishes, cleaning toilets, sinks, showers, or bathtubs, or disposing of rubbish.
- Care of clothing and linens, including washing, drying, ironing, and mending
- Shopping for household supplies, clothing, and personal essentials
- Running errands or picking up medication
- Shopping for food or preparing meals.
Personal Care Aide and Homemaker services DO NOT include the management of the client’s money or finances or the balancing of the client’s checkbook per Hawaii Administrative Rules under the Department of Health.
